For the fourth consecutive day, the S&P 500 index made a new all-time and all-time closing high.
The premarket low (4593.25) was never in play as the index bottomed off the open of the regular session just below Monday’s close (4605.75) at 4605.50 and turned higher. The index did not blink at the premarket high (4610) and paused briefly at Monday’s high (4619.50). Just before noon EST, the index peaked at 4627 and had a few retreats under 4620, but quickly recovered.
In the final minute of the session, the index neared the session high but came up just shy, ending the day higher by 17 handles at 4622.75.
For a change, there was a new leader of the top components of the index, Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA). The chipmaker, which is also on a four-day winning streak added $5.74 or 2.2% to post another new all-time closing high at $264.01.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) found itself in an unfamiliar role as the biggest loser of the top components of the index. For the session, the issue declined by $36.59 or 3% to close at $1172. It should be noted that the high for the session ($1208.59) matched Monday’s all-time closing high, setting a battleground for bulls and bears in the issue moving forward.
