In one of the most treacherous trading sessions of the year, the S&P 500 index futures gained 103.25 handles to close at 4283.50. However, some of the gains evaporated following Amazon Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) Q1 report ending the after-hours session at 4260.25.

If one can filter out all of the intraday gyrations, it was a very simple day utilizing basic technical analysis. The low for the day was not far off Wednesday’s close (4182.50 vs. 4180.25). On the upside, the high for the day matched Tuesday’s high to the tick at 4303.50.

By far, the biggest winner of the top components was Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: FB). Following its Q1 report, the issue had its best day in months by gaining $30.78 or 17.6% to close at $205.73.

That was seven times the cash index’s advance of 2.47%.

The only loser of the top components and therefore the biggest was Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA). For the session, the issue declined by $4 or 0.5 percent to close at $877.51.
